Ocean Integrity Welcomes Danish MEP Anders to Indonesia to Witness Groundbreaking Ocean Cleanup Efforts

Indonesia 15th September 2025 Ocean Integrity was honoured to host Anders Vistisen MEP, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Denmark, during his recent visit to Indonesia. Anders traveled thousands of miles to see firsthand the extensive work Ocean Integrity is doing to combat plastic pollution in rivers and oceans, and to meet Doris Sigalingging, Principal CEO and CEO of Ocean Integrity Indonesia.

Over the course of several days, Anders toured Ocean Integrity’s facilities, met with our teams on the ground, and visited areas where plastic waste is dumped into rivers and eventually flows into the ocean. He witnessed our operations from start to finish, from fishermen collecting plastic, to weighing, scanning, sorting, and recycling, all fully traceable through our blockchain technology.

“I am deeply impressed by the scale of what Ocean Integrity is doing here,” Anders said during his visit. “The transparency and traceability through blockchain technology set a new global standard for ocean cleanup efforts.”

Blockchain-Verified Ocean Cleanup

Ocean Integrity is one of only a handful of organisations worldwide actively collecting plastic from the ocean, and we are proud to be the largest. Every kilogram of plastic we recover is verified, recorded, and locked onto the blockchain, ensuring complete transparency and accountability.

Anders was introduced to our innovative “Clean the Ocean with Every Transaction” program, which allows businesses of any size, from coffee shops to football stadiums, to join the movement at no cost. Participating businesses simply add a few cents to a product or ticket price (e.g., $0.10 on a cup of coffee), with 100% of the funds going toward plastic recovery efforts.

For example:
• $0.10 covers the collection of 5.4 plastic bottles from rivers and oceans.
• $1.00 covers 54 bottles, which means a football match with 30,000 fans could remove over 1,600 kg of plastic with a single event.

Each partner receives a personal QR code and blockchain profile, allowing them and their customers to see exactly how much plastic their contributions have removed, forever recorded and publicly accessible.

Empowering Coastal Communities

Beyond cleaning oceans, Ocean Integrity’s work impacts lives. We employ fishermen in some of the world’s poorest coastal areas, paying them fair wages to collect plastic waste, transforming a challenge into an income source.

We also invest in community development through education, healthcare, and vocational training. Children and teenagers in these areas are given access to English lessons, hospitality training (through our partnership with Harmony Island Resorts), and even pathways to jobs in Europe and Australia, helping them break the cycle of poverty.

The Call for Global Support

During discussions, Anders was particularly interested in how Ocean Integrity funds its work. Much of our operations are self-funded, with millions of dollars personally invested by our founders. We spoke with Anders about applying for the EU LIFE Grant (€500 million), one of the most significant environmental funding programs in Europe.

“This initiative should be introduced globally,” Anders emphasised. “Ocean Integrity deserves recognition and support at the highest levels.”

Doris’s Reflections

After spending several days with Anders and showing him our projects, Doris shared how meaningful the visit was for Ocean Integrity.

“It may have been just a visit, but it was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do,” Doris said. “When someone like Anders, a Member of the European Parliament, takes the time to travel all the way to Indonesia to see our work firsthand, it gives us the motivation to keep scaling, to keep pushing forward, and to keep making an impact.”

Doris emphasised that recognition from international leaders fuels Ocean Integrity’s drive to grow and expand its efforts to clean rivers and oceans worldwide.

“It was an absolute pleasure hosting Anders here,” Doris continued. “We learned so much from him, and we are grateful to have his support. More than just a good MEP, we now consider him a good friend to Ocean Integrity. Keeping this connection open is vital as we continue to share our work and seek the support we need to keep building and scaling our projects.”

Join the Movement

Ocean Integrity’s mission is simple but powerful: Clean the ocean with every transaction.

This initiative costs participating businesses nothing, involves no long-term contracts, and delivers measurable environmental impact. Every cent makes a difference, and every action is permanently recorded on the blockchain.

We invite businesses, organisations, and individuals worldwide to join us. Together, we can transform the way we fight plastic pollution and create a cleaner, healthier future for our oceans, rivers, and communities.
